Runway Star a model mare for Vinery

Vinery sprinter Runway Star has ramped up her residual value with a successful defence of the LR Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

The Peter Moody trained mare made it back-to-back wins in the feature sprint on Monday for a syndicate comprising Vinery partners Tom Simon, Greg Perry, Neil Werrett, Alan Green, Steve McCann, Pat Hodgens and the stud’s general manager Peter Orton.

Runway Star had won the 2015 Matrice Stakes with a similar turn of foot and she will have a couple of weeks on the water-walker at Moody’s Mornington property before returning to Adelaide.  The G3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) on May 21 is a likely target in what could be her final campaign before retiring to stud.

Vinery bought Runway Star for $300,000 at the 2012 Inglis Easter yearlings sale.  Her stunning looks and superb pedigree made her the most expensive filly from the first crop of ill-fated sire Northern Meteor.

She is the first foal of Intuit (Commands) who was stakes placed at Randwick.  Second-dam Wrap Around (Bletchingly) won the G1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley and her half-sister was Group 2 winning mare Rose Of Danehill (Danehill).
