Vinery Stud graduate Rubick heads pre-post markets for the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper after a stunning debut at Randwick.

Rubick (2c Encosta De Lago – Sliding Cube by Rock Of Gibraltar) clocked a sizzling 56.39s in winning the TAB iPhone App Plate (1000m).  “I would have been disappointed if he didn’t win,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.   “He’s got everything – attitude, action, ability.”

Vinery sold Rubick for $460,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  The Scone stud was acting on behalf of Musaffir Yaseen who retained a share with David Raphael, Damion Flower and Neil Werrett.

Ryan also trains last-start Inglis 2YO Classic winner Peggy Jean who will back up at Rosehill this Saturday.  The daughter of Vinery sire Myboycharlie will then either go out for a spell or be freshened for a Group 1 campaign targeting the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes.

Meanwhile, Ryan will send Rubick south for the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude on February 8 and the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 22.  “He pulled up well and can only improve,” Ryan said on Sunday.  “After the trip to Melbourne, he will come back home for the Todman Stakes and Golden Slipper.”

Bookmakers have installed Rubick a $3.60 favourite for the Blue Diamond and the $4.60 favourite for the Golden Slipper on April 5.

Rubick is by champion sire Encosta de Lago and is a three-quarter brother to Group 1 winner Manhattan Rain.  His dam Sliding Cube is a three quarter sister to champion sire Redoute’s Choice.

Sliding Cube’s final foal is a yearling filly by Vinery champion More Than Ready.

Vinery has 21 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Easter Sale starting on April 8.  The first to parade is a Manhattan Rain filly from Caulfield stakes winner Gina Lollawitcha (Lot 24).  And its Encosta de Lago – Succeeding colt (Lot 229) is a brother to Champion South African 2YO Delago Deluxe.

More Than Ready dominates Vinery’s Easter consignment with 14 yearlings and among them is a colt from Giant’s Causeway mare Unspoken Choice (Lot 266).  The dam is an unraced half-sister Sliding Cube.
