The Blackfriars bandwagon continued on its relentless roll when Rosie Rocket blitzed her rivals in the AHA Cup at Bunbury on Sunday.
Rosie Rocket (5m Blackfriars – Rose For Jodi by Scenic) is now on course for more black-type in the LR Bunbury Cup (2200m) on March 15 and the LR Pinjarra Cup (2300m) on April 1.
The Justin Warwick trained mare won her maiden at Pinjarra in March 2011 and finished the year with Listed victories in the La Trice Classic and Starstruck Stakes at Ascot.
“She thrives on work through a pine plantation near our Harvey property,” Warwick told WAN journalist Ernie Manning on Monday. “She’s only had three races since a let-up and the AHA Cup boosted her fitness going into the Bunbury Cup.”
Rosie Rocket is a homebred for Kintore Stud owner Alan Young. He bought her dam for just $4,750 at the 2006 Perth Magic Millions May Sale but the mare died in 2008.
Blackfriars is dominating Sunspeed sire ranks from his base at Durham Lodge in Muchea. He has two of the favourites going into the G2 WATC Derby next month with Full Reign and Rohan.
Full Reign won the LR Challenge Stakes at his penultimate start and promising colt Rohan added his name to the mix with a resounding victory at Ascot on Saturday.
Blackfriars filly Pop Culture also staked her claim for the G3 WA Oaks later this month with a Listed victory in the Ascot 1000 Guineas last Saturday.
