Rose doubles up for Raheen Stud

Kiss A Rose completed a Magic Millions double for Raheen Stud with an authoritative victory in the Legatee Eric Baker Plate (1000m) at Caulfield on Wednesday.

The Peter Moody-trained filly flew home from well off the pace to score by nearly two lengths in 57.77s.  “She really chased down the leaders in the straight,” winning jockey Luke Nolen said.  “She’s improving all the time.”

Kiss A Rose (2f Sebring – Hurl by Redoute’s Choice) is a $180,000 graduate from Raheen’s consignment at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  “She stepped a little slowly and I was forced to sit three wide,” Nolen added.  “But she was always travelling nicely and it was a top effort on debut.”

The Caulfield victory comes just a week after Raheen graduate Madame Fly saluted at Warwick Farm last Wednesday.  The Excites filly cost owner David Walker $50,000 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Both fillies are being set for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on January 12.  Raheen graduate Punch On won the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast earlier this year.

Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan jnr is preparing another quality consignment for the 2013 Magic Millions next month including a colt by sire of the moment Sebring (Lot 1) and a Testa Rossa half-brother to Kiss A Rose (Lot 617).

“Sebring is flying and our colt is an outstanding individual to start the Sale,” Nolan said.  “He’s a real athlete and has got a pedigree to match.”

Raheen’s Sebring colt is from a half-sister to Group 1 winners Gimmethegreenlight (South African Queen’s Plate) and Ofcourseican (Coolmore Classic).

Their Testa Rossa – Hurl colt also comes highly recommended.  “He’s a lovely, big, strong colt and is typical of the family,” Nolan continued.  “Hurl is a cracking mare.  She won four city races in Adelaide and Brisbane and was also stakes placed at Eagle Farm.

“That’s two winners already from 2012,” Nolan claimed.  “We have 14 catalogued for next month’s Sale and it’s the best draft we’ve every prepared for the Magic Millions.”

Besides the Sebring and Testa Rossa colts, Raheen has also catalogued yearlings by fellow Hunter Valley sires Flying Spur, Commands, Northern Meteor, Haradasun and Nicconi plus three colts by Champion Queensland stallion Show A Heart and another two by Glenlogan Park’s up-and-coming sire Real Saga.
