Rising star by Flying Pegasus

Trainer Trevor Andrews has a lot of time for Ascot winner The Rising and his sire Flying Pegasus.

The Rising (3c Flying Pegasus – Glenn’s Girl by Key Business) made it five wins from five starts in the TAB Touch Mobi Hcp (1200m) on Saturday and it was also the second-leg of a double for the Touchstone Farm stallion.

Flying Pegasus filly Baleen In Me had also kept her unbeaten record intact in the Connector Drilling Sprint (1000m) on Karrakatta Plate day.

The Rising is a very relaxed galloper according to his trainer.  “He has a sharp turn of foot and knows how to chase,” Andrews said after the first-up victory.  “He ran down Modello and that showed he doesn’t have to lead to win.

“He was probably a bit underdone today and is still maturing.  In twelve month’s time he will be an open-class sprinter.”

Andrews prepared the first winner by Flying Pegasus when Absolute Cracker was successful at Ascot in October 2010.  He also guided Flying Pegasus gelding King Saul to a G2 victory in the 2011 WA Guineas.

The Rising is raced by the trainer’s wife Joanne along with Isaac and Estelle Cohen, Wayne Downs, Ken and Helen Gregson and Touchstone Farm’s managing-director Glenn Martin who kept a share after selling him for $60,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.

Flying Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) was Sunspeed’s second-season champion in 2011-12 and he is currently engaged in a see-sawing battle with Saxon (Heytesbury Stud) for the third-season title.

Touchstone will stand Flying Pegasus alongside Vital Equine (Danetime) and Planet Five (Storm Cat) at North Dandalup in 2013.  They are all available at a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee and, as an added incentive, any booking made before July 1 will attract an early bird discount of 50% enabling breeders to access the trio for only $2,200 (inc gst).

“It’s a good time to announce our fees after the winning double on Saturday,” Touchstone Farm’s Alayna Bishop said.  “Our stallion owners have been very supportive over many years and they see the “early bird” discount as a great opportunity for local breeders.”
