Red Hot return by Mama’s Choice

Mungrup Stud sire Red Hot Choice is likely to have a black-type update to his pedigree when his younger sister Mama’s Choice returns from a spell next month.

Red Hot Choice (5h Redoute’s Choice – Red Hot Mama by General Nediym) was set to carve out a career of his own at the top level after finishing second to his stablemate God Has Spoken in the LR Aquanita Stakes at Ascot.  But an injury shut him down after just 8 starts.

“He was retired in July last year and we’re looking to build his numbers this season,” Mungrup’s Tom Croucher said from the Great Southern nursery this week.  “As as matter of fact, we’ve just had a client down to inspect the horse and he booked a mare in straight away.”

Mama’s Choice will also help his profile in the early-season stakes races for fillies in Melbourne.  She has been back in work for six weeks at Lindsay Park and trainer David Hayes has always rated her a potentially top-class filly.

“She was awesome winning a stakes race first-up at Caulfield,” Hayes recalled.  “I thought she would be right in the Blue Diamond.”

In a roughly run Group 1, Mama’s Choice struck interference twice in the first half of the race before finishing midfield behind Samaready.  There were identical traffic problems in the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes won by All Too Hard.

Redoute’s Choice got the Mungrup resident and the Lindsay Park filly from Listed VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Red Hot Mama.  The dam is a half-sister to G1 winning filly Hollow Bullet.

Red Hot Choice will cover his second book at a $3,300 (inc gst) service fee in 2012.
