Record-breaking debut by Star Girl

More Than Ready filly Cellargirl will be set for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic after clocking a class-record at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

“Cellargirl is the best 2yo I have ridden this season,” winning jockey Jame Orman claimed after she won the Golden Finch Lawns Hcp (1000m) in 58.22s.  “I really like her and was confident after riding her in a jump-out recently.”

The Kelly Schweida-trained youngster settled back in the field before powering home for a long-neck victory on debut.  “She really attacked the line which is a good sign,” Schweida said.  “She’s a lovely-natured filly and I think she should have won a little easier after looking at the head-on film.”

Cellargirl had to be steadied by Orman near the furlong and alter course to obtain clear running.  Schweida confirmed she will press on to the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on January 14.

A $90,000 buy as a yearling, she’s a younger half-sister to last year’s LR Wintergarden Stakes winner Cellarman (Mossman).  Their dam Vintage Blend (Cape Cross) hails from the family of champion filly Triscay (Marscay).

Star Thoroughbreds manager Denise Martin bought Cellarman and Cellargirl as yearlings on the Gold Coast.  The filly is raced by a women’s syndicate and is eligible for $500,000 in bonus payments for the MM 2YO Classic.

Cellargirl is the first juvenile winner of the season from More Than Ready’s 13th crop in Australia.  The Vinery champion has already sired MM 2YO Classic winners Augusta Proud (2008) and Phelan Ready (2009).
