Recite ready to rock at Awapuni

Trainer John Bary can’t wait for Recite to rock and roll in the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni on Saturday.

The unbeaten Hastings filly won her maiden at Trentham in December and returned to the Wellington course for a Group 2 victory in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes on January 19.

Bary backed her up to complete a hat-trick in the G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes on February 23.  “She just hasn’t stopped improving since her last win and has worked enormously well in preparation for the Sires,” said Bary.  “Normally at this time of the year you are worried about keeping a two-year-old in one piece but she is just flying.

“The step up to the 1400 metres will suit – Mark (Du Plessis) said she felt like she was ready to get a mile after her last run.”

Bary is adamant this Saturday’s excursion will be the last in the filly’s current preparation.  He plans a winter spell before returning for a spring campaign targeting the major three-year-old classics.

Recite (2f Darci Brahma – Chant by Traditionally) is a homebred for The Oaks Stud.  Her dam Chant was New Zealand’s 2006 Champion 2YO Filly after winning the G3 Eclipse Stakes and LR Fairview Ford Stakes in addition to narrow defeats in the G2 Matamata Stakes and G1 Ellerslie Sires Produce Stakes.
