Rare highlight for Fantastic Light

Outlandish Lad scored a breakthrough black-type success with a LR victory in the Trojan Hand Tools Night Hcp (1200m) on Friday night.

A quality sprinter across from South Australian, the grey finished too well along the rails to defeat the favourite Shock Value at Moonee Valley.  He was the value runner at $7.30 following an impressive last-start win at Morphettville.

Outlandish Lad (6g Fantastic Light – Quantum Leap by Regal Classic) had won races for Kylie Huxtable and Mark Kavanagh before transferring to Dennis O’Leary’s beachside stables south of Adelaide.  “He’s a good, honest, tough horse,” O’Leary said.  “And gee it was a great ground saving ride from Damien (Oliver).”

A homebred for Des Gommers, Outlandish Lad failed to reach a $30,000 reserve at the 2007 Adelaide Magic Millions.  His earnings are now more than $400,000.

Darley shuttled his sire Fantastic Light from Dalham Hall to Australia from 2002 to 2006 covering 560 mares in that time.  But his southern days were numbered after siring just seven juvenile winners in his first two crops.

Fantastic Light (Rahy) was relocated to Darley Japan in 2007 but was repatriated to England last year.  He wasn’t advertised in Darley’s European brochure for 2012.
