Pure winner for pre-eminent family in NZ

Pure Elegance continued a winning week for one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent families at Waipukurau on Friday.  She is a homebred for brothers Peter and Phillip Vela and cleared out for a five length victory in the Sandford Arms Tavern Maiden (1200m).

Pure Elegance (2f Redoute’s Choice – Our Echezeaux by Zabeel) is from a sister to Grand Echezeaux who carried their blue and white hooped colours to a G1 victory in the 2000 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville.

Grand Echezeaux started the week with a Group 1 courtesy of her son Darci Brahma (Danehill).  His Cambridge based filly Artistic won the NZ Oaks at Trentham last Saturday.

Grand Echezeaux opened up on another front via her second son Saperavi (Stravinsky) on Thursday.  His first winner arrived when Emily Trimbole upstaged her rivals on debut at Wingatui.

Her latest son to appear on the radar is Redoute’s Choice colt Burgundy.  Like Darci Brahma, he is raced by the Te Akau Syndicate and is being set for a Group 3 at Te Rapa on April 28.

Grand Echezeaux is a three-quarter sister to G1 Hong Kong International Cup winner Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram) who found further fame as the dam of Vela homebred Ethereal in the 2001 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

The Redoute’s Choice nick with Sir Tristram mares is responsible for 12 stakes winners including Group 1 winners Samantha Miss, Melito and Allez Wonder.

Arrowfield Stud’s Redoute’s Choice has now sired four juvenile winners this season and the omens are encouraging for Pure Elegance because the other three – Mama’s Choice, No Looking Back and Shelford – have all earned black type.

Even more encouraging is Redoute’s Choice’s outstanding record as a sire of 26 juvenile stakes winners, seven of them at Group 1 level.

Redoute’s Choice has 43 yearlings, including 6 from Arrowfield, catalogued for in the 2012 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.  They are from some of the very best mares in the Australian and New Zealand Stud Books.
