Prized pensioned in Kentucky

Former New Zealand shuttler Prized has been retired from stud duty at O’Sullivan Farms in West Virginia.

Prized (Kris S.) sired the G1 winners Prize Lady (Auckland Cup – twice), Prized Gem (Brisbane Cup & Kelt Capital Stakes), Sale Of Century (Rosehill Guineas) and Surprize Surprize (NZB Breeders’ Stakes) during a six-season stint until 2001.

Prized was bred in Florida and was trained by Neil Drysdale to win 9 races and $2.26 million.  His signature victory came in the 1989 Breeders’ Cup Turf and he also defeated Kentucky Derby winner Sunday Silence in the G2 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park.

The best of his North American progeny has been G1 winning gelding Brass Hat.  He captured 9 stakes races and earned more than $2.1 million over seven seasons of racing.

Prized is 25 and will spend his retirement at Old Friends Farm in Kentucky.
