Pride poised for Magic Millions Classic

The countdown to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic gathered momentum when Regimental Pride was successful at Rosehill on Saturday.

Regimental Pride (2c More Than Ready – Regimental Gal by General Nediym) is bred win a Magic Millions and he performed like one in the Rosehill Gardens Hcp (1100m).  The David Payne trained colt ran down front-runner Howdah in a roughly-run race caused riderless filly Shadowofyoursmile.

“He’s still learning what to do,” Payne said.  “All going well, he will back up in the Wyong Magic Millions on Thursday and then head to the Gold Coast.”

Regimental Pride finished out of the money on debut in the LR Breeders’ Plate but has redeemed himself with a running double at Rosehill on either side of a 63 day break.  ‘”We fancied him first-up but all he wanted to do was look around at Randwick,” Payne explained.  “He’s more focused now and will improve even further with blinkers.”

Regimental Pride is a $120,000 graduate of the Gold Coast Magic Millions and he can join a growing roll-call of Magic Millions winners by More Than Ready.  The Vinery champion has already sired Augusta Proud (2008) and Phelan Ready (2009) to victories in the Gold Coast 2YO Classic.

His dam Regimental Gal captured the 2003 Magic Millions Classic before going on to G1 victories in the MVRC Australia Stakes and VRC Lightning Stakes.  She completed a winning double at Rosehill on Saturday with Redoute’s Choice filly Lilliburlero.  The mare foaled a Charge Forward colt in October.

Vinery completed a double of its own with Scream Machine in the Greg Houston Plumbing Hcp (1400m) at Rosehill.  He is a son of Vinery sire Excites and won on protest after missing the start and suffering interference twice in transit.
