Yarradale Stud has a quality consignment of 35 yearlings for the upcoming Perth Magic Millions and there’s a potential sale-topper early on when the colt by Rock of Gibraltar from Born Priceless parades as Lot 36.
Born Priceless won the 2001 Karrakatta Plate for Yarradale owner Ron Sayers and her yearlings have been very popular at the sales with six of them changing hands for a sum total of $1.56 million.
Yarradale manager Bernadette Hamill said the latest colt is much more solid than your typical Rock of Gibraltar who has sired 21 stakes winners in Australia while shuttling to Coolmore Stud.
The colt could have another update before the sale courtesy of his older half-brother Born To Excel (Exceed And Excel) who cost $200,000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions. He won first-up at Ascot on January 16 and trainer Dan Morton believes he will begin fulfilling his potential this prep.
Following the Rock of Gibraltar colt into the ring will be a Discorsi filly from his half-sister Born Princess (Lot 37). She is the first of 9 yearlings by Discorsi in the Yarradale draft.
Born Princess (Elusive Quality) was trained by Team Hawkes for a debut victory at a Hawkesbury metro meeting as an autumn two year-old. She resumed at three to win at Moonee Valley but her form fell away after striking severe interference next time out in the Rokk Ebony Cup at Caulfield.
Discorsi (Galileo) was in demand with WA breeders when he retired to Yarradale and there are 22 of his first crop going under the hammer at the Magic Millions. He was a juvenile stakes winner of the 2006 Gibson – Carmichael Stakes at Flemington for owner Keith Biggs but went amiss in the lead-up to that year’s Victorian Derby.
Discorsi is a half-brother to Sunspeed champion Oratorio (Aus) and Sea Siren who was a G1 winner of the Doomben 10,000, BTC Cup and MVRC Manikato Stakes last year.
Other yearlings that have impressed Hamill while being prepared for Session 1 of the Perth Magic Millions on February 19 & 20 include;
Lot 13 – Filly Wanted – Ylang Ylang (Ire): Eye-catching filly from the first crop of Fastnet Rock’s G1 Newmarket Hcp winner Wanted. Her dam is a winning three-quarter sister to November Snow (Storm Cat) who was a G1 winner of the Test Stakes and Alabama Stakes at Saratoga.
Lot 75 – Colt Exceed and Excel – Galena Manor: Impressive, well put-together chestnut. From a half-sister to NZ 2YO stakes winner Royal Babe. Family of Snippets.
Lot 106 – Colt Oratorio – Lungarno: Solid colt from a mare who won 6 races up to a mile in Melbourne & Adelaide. Her first three foals to race are all winners.
Lot 144 – Filly War Chant – R Brown Sugar (USA): First foal of a Florida stakes winner. Conceived in Kentucky and carries a double-cross of Danzig.
Lot 171 – Colt Danzero – So Amourous (GB): Half-brother to stakes performers You Sexy Boy (Canny Lad) and Macau Eagle (Zeditave).
