Pretty happy weekend for Magnus

Eliza Park International stallion Magnus finished the week in style with four winners on Friday and Saturday topped by his brilliant black-type sprinter Prettyhappyaboutit.

Prettyhappyaboutit (4m Magnus – Call Me Pretty by Peaks And Valleys) won the LR Lightning Stakes at Morphettville in July but finished down the track first-up in the LR Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield last month.

The Robbie Griffiths trained mare appreciated the drop back in grade for a narrow victory in the Essendon Mazda 55 Second Hcp.  She clocked 55.93s for the 955m scamper at Moonee Valley.

“She pulled up with muscle soreness across her back at Caulfield,” stable spokesman Don Healy said on Friday night.  “She responded well to treatment and worked really well on Tuesday morning.  It was a terrific win.  She was just too strong.”

Prettyhappyaboutit is raced by Peter & Alex Andonopoulos, Ken Ardley, Jason Brownley, Glenn & Paul Fielding, Kellie McGuire, Philip & Sharon Murphy and Erinvale Stud Farm.

Another of the weekend highlights was the performance from the Peter Moody prepared filly Miss Promiscuity who scored emphatically at Dunkeld.  The manner of her convincing debut victory suggested she’s likely to be fast-tracked to the city.

Miss Promiscuity (3f Magnus – Zipstream by Distant Music) is a homebred for Rob Crabtree along with his wife Sylvie and good mate Craig Jamieson.  Her dam is a city winning half sister to the Crabtree stakes winners Amtrak and Furio.

Keeping it all in the family, Moody trained Magnus throughout his glittering career which was highlighted by a Group 1 victory in the AJC Galaxy.

Perth sprinter Magnifisio came within a whisker of making it five wins in the space of a day at Ascot.  The Jim Taylor trained mare was run down right on the line in the Campari Cin Cin Hcp (1200m).

Magnus (Flying Spur) is developing into a prolific and increasingly versatile stallion.  With a dozen winners in the past month, he is steadily climbing the charts and his progeny will again be eagerly sought at the 2014 yearling sales.
