Australian sprinter Pressday was beaten into third spot when racing second-up at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Pressday (Domesday) stalked the pace in the $80,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes (1300m) behind eventual winner Mr Gruff and Ain’t No Other on the downhill turf course.  Jockey Mike Smith sent him through a gap in the straight but he was unable to pick up the front-runners and was beaten almost two lengths.

Now racing for an Eliza Park syndicate, Pressday was coming off a close second to Carbonite in the Fools Rush In Purse (1300m) at Santa Anita on February 9.

Pressday claimed the G1 T J Smith Stakes and G2 Sandown Guineas in 2010 but was sent to California after suffering a bleeding attack in September 2011.
