Positive results on Day 1 at Magic Millions Broodmare Sale

Beautifully bred Randwick Group winner Sister Madly topped Day 1 of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Sunday.

Bill Mitchell bought the half-sister to champion sprinter Silent Witness on behalf of Segenhoe Stud.  “She’s a beautiful mare and is an outstanding type,” he said.  “She will be heading to the stables of John Sadler in Melbourne prior to joining the broodmare band at Segenhoe.”

Military Rose was second on the leader-board when purchased by Baramul Stud for $800,000.  The General Nediym mare won the 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and returned this year for a G3 victory in the Gold Coast Guineas.

“Gillian (Heinrich) will keep training her for me,” Baramul’s Gerry Harvey reported.  “Hopefully she can win another feature race or two before she visits Redoute’s Choice later this year.”

Turnover reached $7.39 million on 171 fillies and mares traded at a healthy average price of $43,259.  The positive results were welcome after a tough National Weanling Sale.

“Most vendors met the market and the clearance rate of over 77% was encouraging,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.  “It was nice to see the market accept the star mares Sister Madly and Military Rose with strong prices – mares of their quality are rarely offered at auction.”
