Vinery sire Mossman lobbed with another very promising city winner this week in the lead-up to feature races at Flemington and Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Plucky Belle (3f Mossman – Winning Belle by Zabeel) landed the Perri Cutten Hcp (1400m) at Sandown on Wednesday and trainer Peter Moody believes she will graduate to stakes level given time. “She’s a nice filly who has shown more at home than she’s shown in her races,” Moody said. “We always thought she was going to be a mare not a filly.
“If she gets some black type, it might not be until this time next year. The only other Mossman I’ve trained was Segments who was runner-up in an Oakleigh Plate behind Fastnet Rock.”
Mossman got her from Winning Belle who won the G2 Queensland Guineas in 2004. She also gave champion mare Makybe Diva a run for her money in the G1 Australian Cup the following year.
The Gai Waterhouse trained colt Light Brigade (Redoute’s Choice) was Winning Belle’s first winner. He was also placed in the G1 Randwick Guineas and G3 Newcastle Cameron Hcp before transferring to Moody recently.
She has a 2yo colt named Rawnaq (Redoute’s Choice) with David Hayes and a yearling colt by Street Cry who will be offered at the 2012 Inglis Easter Sale. She returned to Vinery and was covered by Mossman in September.
Mossman has Buffering in the mix for the G1 Newmarket Hcp at Flemington on Saturday. The Brisbane sprinter has been runner-up to Black Caviar at his last two outings in the Patinack Stakes and Lightning Stakes down the straight course.
And at Warwick Farm, Mossman is triple-handed in the G3 Liverpool City Cup with Neeson, Triple Elegance and Ofcourseican.
