Planet Rock crowned NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year

Planet Rock has claimed the prestigious New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Filly of the Year Series.

The Fastnet Rock filly joined the likes of King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice), Katie Lee (Pins), Daffodil (No Excuse Needed), Insouciant (Keeper) and Princess Coup (Encosta de Lago) who have all won the Filly of the Year crown in the last five years.

Planet Rock is trained by Peter and Dawn Williams and amassed 26 points in the 10 leg series highlighted by wins in the G1 NZ Bloodstock 1000 Guineas (1600m), G2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) and G3 Lowland Stakes (2100m).

Bred by Bill Gleeson, Planet Rock was purchased by Ger Beemsterboer from Wellfield Lodge for NZ$290,000 at NZ Bloodstock’s 2010 Karaka Premier Sale.

She has won just shy of NZ$400,000 and the Filly of the Year crown earned her connections NZ$50,000 in bonus cheques including NZ$10,000 for her breeder, NZ$10,000 for her trainer and NZ$30,000 for her owners.

Planet Rock (2f Fastnet Rock – Akris by Zabeel) is the first foal of a mare that won up to 2200m at Murray Bridge in South Australia.  She is a half-sister to Montjeu’s Listed winner Gorky Park (VRC Andrew Ramsden Stakes & Geelong Classic).
