Cheveley Park sire Pivotal joined an elite group of stallions when African Story won the G3 Burj Nahaar at Meydan on Saturday night.
The Dubai result took Pivotal’s black-type tally to 100 stakes winners which is the preserve breed shapers sires Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector, Sadler’s Wells, Sunday Silence, Storm Cat, Sir Tristram, Danehill and Red Ransom.
African Story (5g Pivotal – Blixen by Gone West) is a Darley homebred and had won at Saint-Cloud and Deauville before finishing a short-second to Moonlight Cloud in the G3 Prix De La Porte Maillot at Longchamp last July.
The winner franked that form with a follow up victory in the G1 Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville.
Pivotal is son of deceased Cheveley Park stallion Polar Falcon and was raised at the Newmarket nursery. He won the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes and G2 King’s Stand Stakes in 1996 before retiring to stud.
Now a 19 year-old, Pivotal has sired 19 Group 1 winners topped by Golden Apples, Megahertz, Sariska, Excellent Art, Immortal Verse, Kyllachy and Virtual.
