Ortem Fire claimed NZ Bloodstock’s Southern Filly of the Year Series on Saturday even though she was beaten a neck in the final leg at Riccarton on Saturday.
Ortem Fire (Gallant Guru) finished second to Asavant (Zabeel) in the Listed NZ Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (2000m) but three points for second place gave her the overall lead with 13 points.
Asavant had been runner-up to Ortem Fire in the Listed NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes (1600m) but turned the tables when they stretched out to 2000 metres.
The Series winner is trained by Brian and Shane Anderton for a syndicate that includes the Progressive Syndicate, Metro Syndicate, B Shaw, P McDonald, S Blair, E Hornbrook & B Reid. She was bred by Brian and Lorraine Anderton who stand her sire Gallant Guru at their Dunedin based White Robe Lodge.
The son of Montjeu claimed the G2 Sandown Classic in track record time and Ortem Fire is a member of his first crop.
