Oratorio (Ire) transfers to South Africa

Leading South African nursery Avontuur Stud has announced it will stand former Coolmore Stud shuttler Oratorio (Ire).

The move was confirmed after Avontuur owner Michael Taberer visited Coolmore’s Hunter Valley headquarters.  “He will be perfect for us and the country as a whole!” Taberer said. “ He is incredibly laid back and a real charmer and will be an asset to Avontuur’s breeding plans.”

Oratorio is an Irish bred son of Danehill and was Champion 2YO Colt in France in 2004 and Champion 3YO in Ireland in 2005.

Oratorio (Ire) will be transferred to South Africa only after the current Australian breeding season.  “The syndicate consists largely of the existing shareholders in our champion Var,” Avontuur general manager Pippa Mickleburgh said.  “They will have to wait an entire year before he can start working and I will be surprised if he doesn’t have a full book.”

Oratorio (Ire) first shuttled to Coolmore Australia in 2006 and among his three southern bred crops have been the stakes winners Manawanui, Torio’s Quest, Miss Solis and Mourinho.  His overall Australian stats comprise 57 winners of 106 races at a 53% strike-rate.
