NZB National Sale catalogue online

Catalogues for NZ Bloodstock’s National Sale at Karaka on May 8 – 10 are now in the post and it can be viewed online.

The NZB National Weanling & Broodmare Sale has celebrated a landmark last 12 months.  Its weanling graduates are garnering a reputation of offering genuine racing prospects in addition to its already well-established reputation as a lucrative source for pin-hookers.

Top level weanling graduates to win over the past 12 months include Little Bridge (G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot) and Solzhenitsyn (G1 Toorak Hcp).  Hong Kong G1 winner Joy and Fun has also been racing at the top level and finished second in Saturday’s G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai.

Other stakes winners this season include Mosse, Solar Great, Savvy Dancer and Amberio.  The weanling session represents great value at an average price of less than $12,000, especially when compared to how well many sell a few months later as yearlings.

There are 78 sires with weanlings in the NZB National Sale which comprises 355 lots.  The range of local and international sires includes Darci Brahma, Encosta de Lago, Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, Medaglia d’Oro, O’Reilly, Pentire, Pins, Savabeel, Starcraft, Stravinsky and Thorn Park.

First-season stallions include Makfi, Paco Boy, Rip Van Winkle, Shocking, Per Incanto, Showcasing and Tickets.

The Sale’s final session on Friday, May 10 will feature 229 broodmares by sires the calibre of Centaine, Danehill, Last Tycoon, Marscay, O’Reilly, Pins, Redoute’s Choice, Stravinsky, Volksraad, Woodman and Zabeel.

Cambridge Stud resident Zabeel was Champion Australian & NZ Broodmare Sire last season and heads the Australian premiership again this season with horses such as Ocean Park and It’s a Dundeel.  He is represented by 6 broodmares in the Sale.

A number of mares catalogued were covered last season by young and established sires including Alamosa, Captain Rio, Darci Brahma, Falkirk, Keeper, Mastercraftsman, Nom de Jeu, Sakhee’s Secret, Savabeel and Tavistock.  The session will also offer buyers the first mares to be covered by new sires Jimmy Choux, Pour Moi and Redwood.

Adding to the mix is the Horses-in-Training session for horses that have trialled, raced or breezed up for the NZB Ready to Run Sale in the current season.  Targeting a gap in the auction market, this session offers a host of opportunities for those looking for a current racing proposition and each entry is accompanied by a video of its track performance on the NZB website.
