NZ breds dominate Macau Guineas

Imabayboy led home a NZ bred quartet in the Macau Guineas on Sunday.

Imabayboy (4g San Luis – English Kath by Kaapstad) is prepared by expat Kiwi Paddy Busuttin and overcame a slow start to win by two lengths in the domestic Group 1 event over 1400m.  The minors were filled by fellow Kiwi bred gallopers The Lucky Steed (Fantastic Light) and St Peter’s Gift (St. Petersburg).  Fourth home Kaaptan (Kaapstad) was a G1 winner of the 2009 ARC Ford Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie.

Imabayboy was sent to Macau by Auckland Real Estate agent Carl Gray.  He won five races back home before bowing out with an unplaced run in the 2010 NZ Derby won by Military Move.

Deceased Flying Spur stallion San Luis has now sired four stakes winners headed by Rosehill Listed winner Star Of Luis who was subsequently sold to race in Hong Kong.

Imabayboy’s dam English Kath was unplaced in 7 starts before retiring to stud.  Second dam My Lady Gray (Otehi Bay) foaled the NZ stakes winners Esquire Gray (Kingdom Bay), Chance For Gold (Ashabit) and Squire Gray. (Standaan).

Imabayboy will race next in the Macau Derby Trial on March 19.
