NZ Bloodstock Select & Festival Sales online

Bloodstock’s 2013 Karaka Select and Festival Sale catalogues are now available online.

The Karaka Select Sale features 611 yearlings over three days from Wednesday, January 30 to Friday, February 1.  The Karaka Festival Sale comprises 440 yearlings over two days on Sunday, February 3 & Monday, February 4.

When it comes to value with no compromise on track success, the Karaka Select Sale is in a league of its own.  With an average Sale price of under NZ$50,000 for the last five years, the Select session has produced 67 individual stakes winners since the start of the 2010-11 season, and this tally is growing by the week.

However, there is another factor that sets this Sale apart and that is its record at Group 1 level.  Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the Karaka Select Sale has produced no less than 15 individual Group 1 winners that have won a total of 26 Group 1 races in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

These 15 elite graduates have won between them a Cox Plate, 2010 & 2011 Hong Kong Miles, VRC Australian & Hong Kong Derbies, NZ, Queensland & VRC Oaks, NZ 1000 & Australian Guineas, Futurity Stakes and Toorak Handicap.

These 15 Group 1 winners have also averaged over NZ$2.20 million in stakes earnings.

This season has already seen the Select Sale claim three Group 1 winners: Cox Plate winner Ocean Park (NZ) (Thorn Park), 10-time G1 winner (King) Mufhasa (NZ) (Pentire) and NZ 1000 Guineas winner Rollout the Carpet (Holy Roman Emperor).

The Select Sale is renowned for featuring progeny by a wide range of sires from around the world and the 2013 offering is in keeping with this tradition with 77 individual sires represented.

The 2013 Karaka Festival Sale is back to its original two-day format with a catalogue of 440 yearlings – up 132 entries on last year.

The Festival Sale has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in recent times with its graduates headlined by the G1 Hong Kong Derby winner Fay Fay (Falkirk).  He has been well supported with a host of two-year-old stakes winners including Silver City (Nothing to Lose), Napatap (Patapan) and Swiper the Fox (Align).

Other stakes winners included the smart mare Zennista (Zenno Rob Roy), G2 winning sprinter Durham Town (Falkirk), High Kin (High Chaparral) and Amberio (Captain Rio).
