No steroids at Perth Magic Millions

Racing and Wagering Western Australia, working in conjunction with Magic Millions, undertook testing for anabolic steroids at the yearling sales in Perth pursuant to the new Australian Rule of Racing that bans the use of anabolic steroids in thoroughbreds from birth to retirement.

RWWA Integrity officers and Veterinarians, working collaboratively with approved persons engaged by Magic Millions, collected samples from a total of 35 yearlings across a broad range of vendors, representing a sampling rate of approximately 10% of the yearlings presented for sale.

Of the yearlings tested, 20 yearling lots were selected by RWWA Integrity Officers with a further 15 yearlings lots sampled at the request of the buyers.

All samples have now been analysed by Racing Analytical Services Laboratory (VIC), being the official laboratory contracted by Magic Millions for testing samples from all Magic Millions sales across Australia, with no abnormalities reported.
