Newhaven Park signs Delago Deluxe

Newhaven Park will stand Champion South African sprinter Delago Deluxe in 2013.

The Australian bred son of Encosta de Lago will be based at the historic NSW nursery in partnership with Nordic Racing which represents a consortium of breeders including South Africa’s leading owner Markus Jooste.

Newhaven’s Kelly family stood champion Australian sire Wilkes in the 1960s and its most recent resident was Zeditave who died in July 2010.

“Delago Deluxe was a special horse from Day 1,” Nordic Racing manager Michael Gordon said.  “He had the looks of a stallion and tons of ability to back it up – he showed blistering speed and terrific acceleration.

“He’s too valuable for the South African market so we made plans for a stud career in Australia.  We will be supporting Delago Deluxe with a number of our own mares and look forward to making many new friends in the process.”

Bred and sold by Baramul Stud for $550,000 at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Delago Deluxe was an unbeaten juvenile winning the G3 Protea Stakes, G2 South African Nursery and G1 Gold Medallion in 2011.  He added another G1 in the Golden Horse Casino Sprint in 2012.

Delago Deluxe (4h Encosta de Lago – Succeeding by Flying Spur) is from a winning daughter of outstanding broodmare Staging.  The second dam has also foaled the G1 winners Duporth (Red Ransom), Excites (Danewin) and G2 winner Tickets (Redoute’s Choice).

Delago Deluxe (Aus) will stand for a $10,000 (plus gst) service fee.
