Newcastle prize for He’s Remarkable

Prize Pentire entire He’s Remarkable (NZ) finally added Australian black-type to his pedigree with a G3 victory in the Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) on Wednesday.

Despite four placings at stakes level spread over both sides of the Tasman, He’s Remarkable went into the race without a black-type win and the reputation as a very unlucky horse.

He’s Remarkable (4h Pentire – Axiom by Zabeel) was controversially relegated to second after crossing the line first in the G1 Railway Stakes in Perth in November. His connections appealed the decision but to no avail.

Although the victory at G3 level does not compensate the lost G1, it did provide some relief for James. “I am delighted with that effort first-up,” James admitted. “He’s run home in 34 seconds and I know it will harden him up nicely. He’s only got 52kgs in the Doncaster so the weight relief will be a big help.”

He’s Remarkable was bred and sold by Rich Hill Stud for $360,000 at the 2009 NZB Karaka Premier Sale draft at Karaka. His dam Axiom is a daughter of G2 Villiers Stakes winner Arletty and the family includes G1 winners Legs and Guyno.

Rich Hill Stud resident Pentire has now sired 36 stakes winners. His win also extended the lead of Zabeel on the New Zealand broodmare sires’ table.
