New Spinner for Lonhro

Lonhro’s winning run continued at Doomben on Saturday when his promising youngster Spinhro won the in the Sky Racing 2YO Handicap (1010m).  The Norm Stephens trained colt was sent out one of the leading chances after an eye catching debut behind Noisy Ocean last month.

Spinhro (2c Lonhro – Comeinspina by Spinning World) is the second juvenile winner for his sire this season following Darley colt Benfica who was successful at Rosehill on December 4.

Spinhro was purchased by Stephens for $81,000 from the Robyn Wise draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He led home a Magic Millions trifecta from QTIS 600 graduates Slysera (Hidden Dragon) and Punch On (Tiger Hill).

A Darley resident, Lonhro is the sire of star gallopers Denman, O’Lonhro, Renaissance, Beaded, Trim, Parables, Deer Valley and Dysphonia.  His first crop are mid-season five year-olds and there have been 181 individual winners to date at a remarkable 68% strike rate.

Spinhro is the first winner for a New Zealand bred half sister to the G3 NZ Lowland Stakes winner Groundless Threats.  It’s the same family as Kiwi Group 1 winners La Mer and Zepherin and South African star Timber Trader.

Spinhro has younger half-brother on the ground by Craiglea Stud sire Waterford Road.
