New Rulers at Scenic Lodge

Group 3 winning sprinter Universal Ruler has his second crop of foals arriving at Scenic Lodge in Western Australia.

Universal Ruler (Scenic) has been popular with breeders, covering 155 mares in his first two seasons at stud.  His foals on the ground this month include a filly from the beautifully bred Bletchley Park mare Bangadang Lass.

Bangadang Lass was an Ascot juvenile winner on Australia Day in 1999 and her half-brother Royal Rubiton (Rubiton) was a G3 winner of the VATC Autumn Stakes at Sandown.

They descend from a family that includes several stakes winners by former Sunspeed champions Beau Sovereign and Jungle Boy.

A Blackfriars – Bangadang Lass colt made $50,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.  He was purchased by leading agent John Chalmers and has been named Black Shot.  The mare’s weanling by Blackfriars was bought by Orange Grove trainer Dennis Barker for $21,000 at the Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale last month.

Universal Ruler defeated Scenic Blast in the LR Perth Stakes at two and returned to claim the LR Bunbury Stakes and LR Easter Stakes at Ascot as an autumn three year-old.

Raced by Kevin Berry’s Impressive Racing Syndicate, he bowed out with a G3 victory in the Belmont Stakes increasing his winning strike-rate to 50% in 12 starts.

Universal Ruler will stand for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee at Scenic Lodge this year.
