Ladretto maintained his new lease on life in the $75,000 Cleveland Bay Hcp (1200m) in Townville on Saturday.
The Dash For Cash gelding is unbeaten in 7 starts since local horseman Kerry Baumann bought him from clients of Mornington trainer Jason Warren. He won Townsville’s feature sprint of the season by a long neck from Mazuka (Exceed And Excel) and Jabiru Dreaming (Invincible Spirit).
Ladretto (4g Dash For Cash – Shu’ Shu’ Lara by Shagny) had won a Mornington maiden but was a handful in Victoria and refused to settle in his races. “I won a few with Breakers Path for his owner Dr Zito,” Baumann said. “I must have been doing a good job because he sent Ladretto up here a year ago.
“He had a back problem but my wife Rachael and I give him a lot of personal attention. Now he’s growing in confidence and getting better all the time.”
Baumann operates a pump business in Townsville and trains a small team as a hobby. The latest feature winner by Swettenham Stud’s Dash For Cash is from a half-sister to Steel Phoenix (Nassipour) who won stakes races in Melbourne and Sydney for trainers Theo Howe and John Size.
Dash For Cash has sired 87 winners of 147 races in Australia this season. They have earned over $3.13 million and chief among them has been Arinosa. Another Victorian cast-off, she was rated the most-improved mare in Australia after winning the G2 Sapphire Stakes at Randwick in April.
Swettenham Stud will stand Dash For Cash for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee this year.
