Nechita all class in Silver Shadow

Fastnet Rock may have produced a likely replacement for his headline fillies Atlantic Jewel and She’s a Fox who were both ruled out of the spring carnival with injuries last week.

Nechita (3f Fastnet Rock – Artistique by Peintre Celebre) looked all class when she made a one act affair of the G3 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.  The Patinack Farm filly had won on debut in June and returned from a break to lower Skating’s race record which has stood since 1992.

Sent to the post a short priced favourite, Nechita travelled sweetly and then accelerated to score by the best part of two lengths eased down.  “She was awesome,” winning rider Christian Reith said.  “She’s still got a lot of improvement fitness-wise to come.  She’s something pretty special.”

Bred by Jason Abrahams of Champion Thoroughbreds, Nechita was a $130,000 purchase for Patinack Farm from the Edinglassie Stud draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She is the second winner for former handy city winner Artistique who is a half-sister to stakes-winners Winona and Chiming Lass.

Fastnet Rock stands at Coolmore Stud and is Australia’s reigning champion sire.  Nechita is his 35th stakes winner.
