Mungrup carve up at Magic Millions

Mungrup Stud stallions Oratorio (Aus), Danehill Express and Due Sasso carved up a hat-trick of feature wins at Ascot’s Magic Millions meeting on Saturday.

Trustee Brown (6g Oratorio – Highway Bliss by Marauding) fronted the trio in the LR Detonator Stakes (1800m).  He is the fifth stakes winner from Oratorio’s first crop following Clueless Angel (G2 WA Guineas), Gold Rocks (G2 Karrakatta Plate), Waratah’s Secret (G3 Prince of Wales Stakes – twice) and Latoria (LR Summer Scorcher).

Trainer Stephen Miller will keep Trustee Brown in Listed company for the Bunbury Stakes and Pinjarra Classic.  Oratorio (Aus) has a full brother to Trustee Brown catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions this week.  The colt has been catalogued as Lot 303 by Mungrup Stud.

Mungrup’s in-form sire Danehill Express was represented by his first stakes winner when Express Service powered home in the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1400m).

The Perth sales-related race has been given Restricted Listed status and Express Service deserved black-type after he flew home to get within a length of Darlington Abbey in the 2012 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Express Service (3g Danehill Express – Lip Service by Marooned) is trained by Darren McAuliffe and will be set for the G2 WATC Derby (2400m) on April 20.  “I don’t think Darren would swap this horse for anything else heading into the Derby,” syndicate manager Eddie Rigg said.  “He loved this horse at the sales two years ago.”

Express Service graduated from Rigg’s Geisel Park draft at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.  He cost $42,000 and Rigg bought a share back in the robust youngster post-sale.

Mungrup studmaster Gray Williamson has 14 of the 23 Danehill Express yearlings catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions this week.

Dueton delivered a Mungrup treble at Ascot in the Selangor Turf Club Trophy (1000m).  The Due Sasso gelding had his rivals off the bit a long way from home and was geared down in the straight to score by next to three lengths.

Dueton (3g Due Sasso – Californium by Geiger Counter) is a homebred for Lex and Shirley Piper and has been an absolute model of consistency this campaign winning three races and being placed in the LR Placid Ark Stakes.

There are 15 Due Sasso yearlings catalogued for the Magic Millions and 10 of them are on account of Mungrup and its clients topped by the fillies from Triniton (Lot 194) and Livorno (Lot 325).  The latter is a younger half-sister to current winners Moet Me (Ascot) and Livorno Express (Cranbourne).
