Mossman follows the footsteps of Success Express

Vinery stallion Mossman struck twice as a sire and broodmare sire at the Magic Millions on Saturday.

His daughter Stolen Beauty foaled $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Real Surreal and he doubled up with Triple Elegance in the $400,000 Magic Millions Cup.

Mossman mares are just beginning to make an impact – there have only been 42 starters from his daughters to date – but he is already following in the footsteps of his own sire Success Express.

A champion sire in that sphere, Success Express mares have thrown Group 1 winners like Savabeel, Pinker Pinker, Sea Siren, Gold Edition, Guiseppina, Wonderful World and Vouvray.

Real Surreal (2f Real Saga – Stolen Beauty by Mossman) is a younger half-sister to G3 Vo Rogue Plate winner Benny’s Buttons.  Their dam arrived in Mossman’s first crop and although nothing out of the ordinary as a racehorse – winning an Ipswich maiden in 15 starts – she has really blossomed in the breeding barn.

Triple Elegance helped Mossman join fellow Vinery sires More Than Ready and Testa Rossa in the Australian Top 20 this season when he won the Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

The Chris Waller trained sprinter bounced back to form at the Gold Coast – his last win had been in the G3 Liverpool City Cup at Warwick Farm in March 2011.  “He’s promised a lot for a long time,” stable foreman Liam Prior said.  “Hopefully he will click back to form with this win on the board.”

Triple Elegance (6g Mossman – Mary Machree by Quest For Fame) was an $80,000 buy for Waller at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions and Saturday’s result increased his bank-balance to $786,000.

He is one of 21 stakes winners by Mossman.  His dam Mary Machree won twice in Sydney and was also G2 placed in the 2000 Emancipation Stakes at Randwick.

Mossman’s overall record consists of 269 winners of 774 races at a 68% strike-rate.  He stands for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee at Vinery.
