The Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale finished at Oaklands on Monday with a Musket colt topping the two-day auction at $58,000.
Musket was formerly based at Darley and is now part of an emerging roster at Yarradale Stud in Western Australia. He is a Redoute’s Choice three-quarter brother to Makybe Diva and was a G2 winner of the STC Shannon Stakes and three other races from just 14 starts.
That same cross unearthed another star of the future when Wales won on debut at Caulfield last Saturday. The Team Williams colt is by Redoute’s Choice from a half-sister to Makybe Diva.
Musket stood a sole season at Darley’s Twin Hills Stud in 2009 before transferring west in April 2010. That first crop also included a filly that topped the Tasmanian Magic Millions at $60,000 in February.
His Melbourne sale-topper is from the Gai Waterhouse trained Canterbury winner Zirascible (Zabeel). The colt was consigned by Bowness Stud and was purchased by leading agent Steve Brem.
Musket stands for an $11,000 service fee at Yarradale Stud. The leading Sunspeed nursery is gearing up for its fourth annual yearlings sale on site at Gidgegannup on Sunday, May 20.
There are 66 lots for sale including four colts and three fillies by Musket that were bred in NSW.
Yarradale owner Ron Sayers has also catalogued yearlings by Darley sires Exceed And Excel, Hard Spun, Dubawi, Commands, Any Given Saturday, Strategic, Street Sense and Street Boss.
