Trainer Liam Birchley is hoping Brisbane’s wet spell continues for Blueberry Hill leading up to the G2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben this Saturday.
The daughter of Vinery sire Myboycharlie loves the sting out of the ground and her ability to race in among horses and on the pace will give her a chance to collect more black type for her pedigree.
Blueberry Hill (2f Myboycharlie – Perkipsey by Falbrav) won her first two starts at Doomben (Soft 5) and Sunshine Coast (Heavy 10) before a close second in the G3 Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast on Anzac Day.
She was held up approaching the furlong and was unlucky to lose her unbeaten record last time out to long-shot Big Tree. Bred on the same Myboycharlie – Falbrav cross as G2 Danehill Stakes winner Charlie Boy, she is a homebred for Peter Marshall who races her with a syndicate that includes his daughter-in-law Karen.
Blueberry Hill also holds a Group 1 nomination for the J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) at Doomben on June 6.
