The outstanding black-type winning sequence of Artie Schiller (USA) continued at Caulfield on Saturday when Mezeray Miss landed the LR City of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1400m).
Mezeray Miss (3f Artie Schiller – Aqualuna by Quest For Fame) accelerated in the straight to become the 20th stakes winner for the Emirates Park stallion.. She went into the event a two-time winner at Cranbourne and Sandown but was unproven in stakes company.
Mezeray Miss was sold by Huntworth Stud for $65,000 at the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale. She has a 2yo half-sister named Atlantis (Domesday) with Richard Jolly at Morphettville.
“We had an easier option at Moonee Valley next week but elected to give her a shot at black-type,” trainer Matt Laurie said. “I was surprised that she was so strong late after being so close to the speed. It’s great to get a stakes win for her owners and hopefully she can add to it later on.”
Artie Schiller (El Prado) has enjoyed an outstanding recent spell that includes USA juvenile Group 1 winners We Miss Artie and My Conquestadory. In Australia, Mezeray Miss is a member of his third southern crop and joins Laser Hawk, Lady Melksham, Big Chill, Secret Liaison and Moving Money as black-type winners on the local front.
Artie Schiller stands for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee at Emirates Park’s Victorian arm at Digger’s Rest.
