Mio Dio’s leap of faith at Flemington

Trainer Wez Hunter schooled Mio Dio over hurdles in advance of his assignment at Flemington in Saturday. and the gelding responded to win the Garden View Pavilion Hcp (1200m).

Mio Dio (4g God’s Own – Hageabi by Scenic) improved his record to 5 wins in 28 starts with a two-length victory over Benchi Pegasus.  “He’s a sprinter but might have a future as an equestrian when his racing days are over – he’s a gun jumper,” Hunter said.  “We added blinkers today and the give in the ground also helped.”

Hunter is based at Mornington and has a good record with Redoute’s Choice stallion God’s Own.  He trained Bel Thor for a Flemington victory at the 2013 spring carnival and the gelding followed up with a Listed win in the 2014 Seymour Cup.

Mio Dio was bred by Tas Reilly at Basinghall Farm and is from a half-sister to mudlark Emlozza (Encosta de Lago) who won Group 3 sprints at Caulfield and Cheltenham.

God’s Own has sired the winners of 103 races this season for over $2.45 million in prizemoney.  He will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee at Greta West Stud this year.
