Mill Park mourns My Madonna

South Australian nursery Mill Park Stud has reported the death of its foundation broodmare My Madonna.  The daughter of Prego was 22.

“My Madonna was in foal to Bernardini,” Mill Park’s Serena Watson said.  “She had a heart attack out of the blue and died instantly.  It was totally unexpected but at least it was quick and painless.”

My Madonna put Mill Park on the map as the dam of four-time G1 winning mare Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky).  She also foaled G3 winner Blessum (Umatilla) as well as five other winners.  Her first foal Pieta (Clay Hero) went on to produce Randwick Listed winner Angel Of Mercy (Hussonet).

Mill Park sold Divine Madonna as a yearling at the 2004 Adelaide Magic Millions for $82,500.  Trained by Mark Kavanagh, she later sold as a broodmare prospect to Darley for a$2.70 million.

Kavanagh also prepares My Madonna’s daughters The Good Wife (Redoute’s Choice) and Medici Madonna (Exceed and Excel) and they are sure to bring further glory to the family.

My Madonna’s last foal is a Bernardini colt that made $80,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  He was claimed by WA trainer Ross Price and his son Clint.
