War Chant’s Group 1 classic winner Midnight Interlude has been catalogued as a stallion prospect for the Barretts January Sale in California on Tuesday week, January 22.
Midnight Interlude sells in the Barretts supplementary catalogue on account of McCarthy Bloodstock as Lot 161.
Midnight Interlude (5h War Chant – Midnight Kiss by Groom Dancer) was trained by Bob Baffert to win the G1 Santa Anita Derby in 2011. He was raced by owner-breeder Arnold Zetcher and has Australian connections through his sire and dam.
War Chant has just returned to Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky after covering his second Australian book at Yarradale Stud. The Danzig sire stands for a $22,000 fee at the Western Australian nursery.
Midnight Interlude is from NZ bred mare Midnight Kiss. She won races at Arawa Park and Tauranga before finishing third in the 2004 NZ Oaks won by Wharite Princess.
Exported to North America, Midnight Kiss had already foaled the Point Given winner Prime Kiss before Midnight Interlude arrived. She has also foaled War Chant’s 2012 Del Mar Oceanside Stakes winner Midnight Crooner. The mare has a two year-old filly by Bernstein and a yearling colt by Giant’s Causeway.
