McNair welcomes back Hay List

Hay List is back in work and connections are optimistic about his future.

The star sprinter is trained by John McNair for the Davenport family and his spring carnival was cut short by a lingering leg infection.

He is overdue for a trouble-free campaign after extensive treatment at the Randwick Equine Centre.  “Hay List is back in light work,” Peter Davenport said on Tuesday.  “He looks 100% and weighs about 640kg which is about 20kg above his fighting weight.”

Hay List (5g Statue Of Liberty – Sing Hallelujah by Is It True) has raced five times this year for wins in the G2 Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm and G1 All-Aged Stakes at Randwick.

In the other three outings, he was runner-up to Black Caviar in the G1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington, G1 T J Smith Stakes at Randwick and G1 BTC Cup at Doomben.

Hay List has won 14 of his 20 starts beginning with an unbeaten run of 8 wins in Perth.  He travelled east to win the G1 Manikato Stakes, G2 Gilgai Stakes, G3 Healy Stakes and G3 Ian McEwan Stakes before bumping into Black Caviar.

The Davenports welcomed another addition to the family when Sing Hallelujah foaled an impressive brother to Hay List at Eliza Park last week.

“Mother and son are doing very well,” Davenport revealed.  “Little Hay, as we’re calling him, was born 57kg and is super correct.  He’s a lovely foal.

Besides Hay List, Sing Hallelujah has also foaled the winners Gold Statue and Sound Of The Ocean.  The mare with be bred back to Black Caviar’s sire Bel Esprit at Eliza Park later this month.
