Mastercraftsman’s book closed at Windsor Park

Windsor Park Stud has priced Champion European colt Mastercraftsman at NZ$25,000 for his initial season in New Zealand in 2010.  News of his arrival came just days after Coolmore Stud announced High Chaparral would be re-routed from Windsor Park to its Hunter Valley base this year.

MASTERCRAFTSMAN (Danehill Dancer) was undefeated in his first four races which included the G1 Phoenix Stakes and G1 National Stakes at the Curragh.  He trained on to become a leader of his generation as a three year-old winning the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and G1 Royal Ascot St James’ Palace Stakes over 1600m.

Mastercraftsman has enjoyed an unprecedented response from breeders and his book has already closed for 2010.

Mastercraftsman joins champion Volksraad who poised to take his tally of New Zealand sires’ premiership honours to 8 this season.  Volksraad has broken his own record for progeny earnings this season which currently stand at $2.80 million.

VOLKSRAAD has underlined his great versatility yet again this season with NZ Derby winning son Military Move among the leading New Zealand 3YOs while in Australia his representatives include G1 mare Velocitea.  Further afield, his brilliant mare Mexican Rose is among the best gallopers in Singapore.

Volksraad is also the damsire of NZ’s leading 3YO filly Zarzuela, Hong Kong G1 winner Beauty Flash and Australian G3 winners Take The Rap and Dino Mak.  The champion son of Green Desert will stand for $22,000.

THORN PARK has once again enjoyed a successful season in NZ with further stakes winners including Group 1 2YO performer Jimmy Choux and G2 winning miler La Etoile.  In Australia, his stakes winners include Centennial Park and Swiss Rose.  Now the sire of 17 stakes performers, the ever popular Thorn Park will stand at a fee of $13,500.

GUILLOTINE covered an initial book in excess of 100 mares last year.  His own sire Montjeu is the most successful son of Sadler’s Wells at stud.  Guillotine was a Group winning miler in Australia and he is a half brother to G1 winner Efficient.  His service fee has been set at $8,000.

FALKIRK rounds out the stallion roster at Windsor Park.  An international Group 1 sprinter , his first runners this season include the winners Faxed and Miss Marauder.  It’s timely to remember that Falkirk didn’t hit his straps until he was an autumn 3YO.

Falkirk will stand $7,500.  He could follow in the footsteps of High Chaparral who claimed two winners at a similar stage in his stud career at Windsor Park before his first 3YOs proved so successful.

“With outstanding performance our first criteria, we are always mindful our service fees will afford breeders not only an appropriate market return but also the opportunity to breed a superior racehorse,” Windsor Park stud manager Rodney Schick said.  “This has always been reflected in the level of support our stallions have received and we thank the many breeders who have taken advantage of our approach”.
