Makfi sold to Japan

Makfi (GB) is covering a final southern book in New Zealand following the announcement of his sale to Japan.

Qatar Bloodstock shuttles Makfi to Westbury Stud where he has sired Group 1 winners Marky Mark (Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes) and Sofia Rosa (Australian Oaks).

“We will be sad to see Makfi go as he was the first stallion purchased by Qatar Bloodstock and he means a lot to Sheikh Fahad and all the team,” Qatar Bloodstock manager David Redvers said.  “However, from a commercial perspective, the deal made good sense and we wish the JBBA the best of luck with him.  I’m sure he will continue to thrive at stud.”

Makfi (Dubawi) defeated Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin in the 2010 English 2000 Guineas and followed up with a victory over Goldikova and Paco Boy in the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois.

He stood at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire and Haras de Bonneval in Normandy.  There have been 158 individual winners at a 57% strike-rate headed by European classic winner Make Believe (G1 French 2000 Guineas).

Makfi’s English 2000 Guineas winning son Night Of Thunder is currently covering his first Australian book at Darley Victoria.
