Westbury Stud has released the fees for its stallions this year with champion miler Makfi again heading the roster at a fee of $22,500 (plus gst).
Makfi (Dubawi) won the G1 English 2000 Guineas and the G1 Prix Jacques Marois. In the latter, he was the only horse to beat Goldikova in 2010. Among the mares covered by Makfi in his first two seasons have been G1 winners Giovana, Insouciant, Tapildo and G2 winners Keep the Passion and Everswindell.
As well, there have been the dams of G1 winners Little Bridge and Ruud Awakening. “The Makfi foals we have seen to date are great types across the board, being athletic and possessing good muscle,” Westbury general manager Russell Warwick said. “They’re attributes which are keenly sought when it comes to selling yearlings in this part of the world.”
Standing alongside Makfi will be Redwood who remains at his 2012 service fee of $12,500 (plus gst). World record holder Red Giant and Oakleigh Plate winner Swiss Ace will both have their first runners in 2013 and they will both stand for a fee of $10,000 (plus gst).
Proven G1 sires Captain Rio and Postponed represent great value at $7,000 (plus gst) while Encosta de Lago’s son Cecconi will stand for $4,000 (plus gst).
