Exceed And Excel yearlings entered for the Perth Magic Millions received the best possible update when Camporella won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Ascot on Saturday.
Camporella (2f Exceed and Excel – Really Flying by Real Quiet) crossed from a wide gate to sit on the speed and defeat Vampi Lass (Bletchley Park) and Petrol Power (Snitzel) in a blanket finish to the $250,000 event which also carries Restricted Listed status.
“It’s very satisfying,” trainer Dan Morton said. “She’s been a high class filly from the day we started so it’s nice for everything to fall into place and win a race like this.”
Morton purchased the filly for $140,000 from Newhaven Park at last year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions. She had won first-up at Ascot on February 6 and Morton knew there was improvement to come. So did winning jockey Jarrad Noske.
“The outside barrier didn’t really bother me – I just thought she was that good,” Noske said. “The feel she gave me the other day was twice as good as it looked. I rode her like the best horse today. She did some work, sat outside of them and still won.”
Camporella is one of 62 stakes winners for Exceed and Excel. It was second-leg of a juvenile double for the Darley champion who sired Overreach to win the LR Widden Stakes at Rosehill earlier in the day.
His Magic Millions winner is from Scone stakes winner Really Flying (LR Dark Jewel Classic) and hails from the family of G1 stars Easy Rocking and Fairy King Prawn.
