Darley’s wonderful season went one better at the Brisbane winter carnival when Beaded scored a head-bobbing victory in the G1 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.

Beaded (5m Lonhro – Subtle by Night Shift) surged past Love Conquers All in the straight but couldn’t put him to bed in the final furlong.  In a pulsating finish, the Darley queen delivered when it counted to win by a nose.

Beaded earned $422,600 and that will be the catalyst for her sire Lonhro to claim his first Australian sires’ premiership this season.

Long-time ladder-leader High Chaparral has been a sitting shot for Lonhro in the second-half of the season.  And Darley’s young gun enjoyed another productive afternoon on Saturday.  Besides the Doomben 10,000, his Darley homebred Scarf scored at Randwick while Diva Dior (Newcastle), Platamone Castle (Tatura) and What A Treat (Tatura) won at the provincials.

Lonhro will space High Chaparral (Coolmore), Redoute’s Choice (Arrowfield) and More Than Ready (Vinery) if Beaded doubles up in the $1.02 million Stradbroke Hcp.  Bookmakers have installed her a $5 favourite for Queensland’s richest sprint on June 12.

“Beaded has got a big heart for a tiny mare,” trainer Peter Snowden said.  “She’s got a great fresh record but I deliberately left something in the tank for the Stradbroke.

“The 10,000 is a bonus.  We thought Black Caviar and Hay List would be in the race,” Snowden claimed.  “Her main goals up here are the Stradbroke Handicap and the Winter Stakes a fortnight later.”

Beaded deserved a G1 after being placed at the elite level behind Response (SAJC Robert Sangster), Black Caviar (VRC Newmarket), Melito (QTC Winter Stakes) and Hot Danish (AJC All-Aged Stakes) in the last twelve months.

The Lonhro mare has built up an outstanding 20-10-3-4 career card.  Her only unplaced run was a nose x long-head x nose fourth behind Black Piranha, Melito and Mic Mac in last year’s G1 Stradbroke Hcp.  Snowden reckons she would have won from an inside alley.

Beaded is a half-sister to Darley’s G3 AJC Up and Coming Stakes winner Rarefied (Commands).  Their dam Subtle won five sprints in Sydney and two editions of the Doomben Dash.

Subtle, who died in 2008, is an older half-sister to Undue (Commands) who won the 2006 Doomben 10,000 and 2007 Oakleigh Plate.
