Logotype launches Japan’s Triple Crown

Star colt Logotype broke the Nakayama 2000 metre track record on his way to a half-length victory in the G1 Satsuki Sho on Sunday.

Logotype (3c Lohengrin – Stereotype by Sunday Silence) is a Shadai homebred for Teruya Yoshida and he carved out the Japanese 2000 Guineas distance on turf in 1.58s.  Jockey Mirco Demuro had previously won the first colts classic of the season on Neo Universe in 2003 and Daiwa Major in 2004.

A debut two year-old winner in June 2012, Logotype was then placed in the Clover Sho before finishing fourth in both the Hakodate Nisai and Sapporo Nisai.

Trainer Tsuyoshi Tanaka produced him to win the Begonia Sho before an upset victory in the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity.  He opened 2013 with an impressive score in the Spring Stakes on March 17 prior to making it four straight on Sunday.

Logotype’s dam Stereotype is a three-quarter sister to stakes winner Grand Pas de Deux and she has produced G3 winner Pas de Trois.  Stereotype is also a half-sister to stakes winner En Dehors.

His sire Lohengrin (Singspiel) stands at Lex Stud in Hokkaido along with a roster that, at last count, numbered 22 stallions.  An accomplished miler, he retired to stud in 2008.

Japan’s Triple Crown series continues with the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby- May 26) and Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger – October 20).
