Logans mob-handed in Taumarunui Cup

Donna and Dean Logan will empty their staying ranks for an all-out assault on Saturday’s LR Taumarunui Gold Cup at Te Rapa.

The Ruakaka trainers have (NZ) entrants Magna Carta (His Royal Highness), Seed Of Speed (St. Petersburg), Uncle Shayne (Bachelor Duke) and Mawah Vellous (Southern Image) with Whistling Straits (Thorn Park) among the emergencies.

“Magna Carta would be aided by any rain and that would bring him right into contention – the tracks have just been a little too quick for him in his last two,” Donna Logan said.

Seed Of Speed earned his cup spot with victory on his home track last Saturday and the talented four-year-old had come through the outing in fine fettle.  “He breezed through it well and rain would be of assistance to him as well,” Logan said. “He won pretty impressively so he deserves a crack at a race like this.”

Uncle Shayne was a Ruakaka winner two runs back and little notice should be taken of his unplaced effort in the Whangarei Cup.  “He won’t mind the track whichever way it plays out on Saturday and he was inconvenienced in the cup when that runner broke down – Mark Du Plessis said he was travelling like a winner at the time,” Logan said.

Uncle Shayne’s stablemate Mawah Vellous pounced on his misfortune to claim the cup for the stable and she also has an Ellerslie victory to her credit from her current campaign.  “The further she goes the better she will be,” Logan said.

Whistling Straits chased home Mawah Vellous in the Whangarei Cup and then finished third behind Seed Of Speed in Rating 85 company last Saturday.  He loves Te Rapa and was hampered by 59kg last time out.
