All Legal has provided trainer Kevin Moses with a valuable victory in the G2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm.
In a thrilling finish to the time-honoured mile, All Legal produced a barnstorming finish to collar Alma’s Fury. A further three-quarters of a length away in third was Darci Be Good.
Moses won the 1979 Villiers Stakes aboard King’s Ideal as a jockey and joins a select group to have also trained a winner of the race. “Training them is a lot harder than riding,” Moses said. “All Legal had five chips in a knee and a vet took one look and said to retire him,” Moses recalled. “But I got a second opinion and the other vet said he could operate.”
All Legal (6g Al Maher – Azardi by Desert Prince) was a $25,000 buy for Moses and his wife Jenny at the 2008 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale and has now earned $590,000. “He’s a stable favourite has won his share of races,” Moses added. “He was only four lengths from More Joyous in the Doncaster.”
Bred by Access Bloodstock, All Legal is by Emirates sire Al Maher from a half-sister to Hong Kong Star Glorious Days (Hussonet), Sydney 2yo stakes winner Spurcent (Flying Spur) and Dunedin Guineas winner Bangalore Bullet (Hussonet). His dam Azardi has a 2yo colt by God’s Own and yearling filly by Al Maher.
