Lankan Rupee hit the ground running in October and has kept right on with the job for owner-breeder Muzaffar Yaseen and trainer Mick Price.
The Redoute’s Choice gelding won first-up at Moonee Valley and added the LR Century Stakes at Flemington on Victorian Oaks day before facing a more serious test in the G3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1200m).
Lankan Rupee (4g Redoute’s Choice – Estelle Collection by Stravinsky) met the challenge and then some at Caulfield on Saturday. He settled behind the leaders before charging to a two length victory over Hot Snitzel (Snitzel) and Famous Seamus (Elusive City).
“I thought he was really good running out a strong 1200 metres,” Price commented. “It opens up a lot of options. We will put him out and let him furnish again and then have a crack at the autumn.”
Yaseen’s Teeley Assets Syndicate also has Lankan Rupee’s younger sister Timeless Choice on the books with Price. Their dam Estelle Collection foaled a filly by Manhattan Rain in September and has visited Redoute’s Choice again this spring.
Yaseen raced Redoute’s Choice to Group 1 victories in the Blue Diamond Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, Manikato Stakes and C F Orr Stakes. Now a 17 year-old, the champion stallion has enjoyed an exuberant spring in Australia with Group winners Aussies Love Sport, Dystopia, Girl Gone Rockin’ and Lankan Rupee.
He has sired 108 stakes winners and stands for a$137,500(inc gst) fee at Arrowfield Stud.
Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and his sons Snitzel and Stratum fill three of the Top 10 spots on the Australian General Sires’ list. The 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions catalogue features a dozen yearlings by Redoute’s Choice.
