Laminitis claims Beautiful Pleasure

Champion North American mare Beautiful Pleasure has succumbed to laminitis at Fawn Leap Farm in Kentucky.

Beautiful Pleasure (Maudlin) was a G1 winner of the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Gulfstream Park.  It completed a winning hat-trick for the mare after earlier G1 victories in the Personal Ensign Hcp and Beldame Stakes.

She returned the following year to annex another Personal Ensign as well as the G1 Hempstead Hcp and G1 Shuvee Hcp.

Owner John Oxley bought Florida-bred Beautiful Pleasure for $480,000 at the 1997 Keeneland April 2YO Sale.  She was trained by John T. Ward Jr and, in 25 starts, earned over $2.73 million.

As a broodmare, Beautiful Pleasure produced G1 Travers Stakes runner-up Dr. Pleasure.  She also has a Bernardini yearling and foaled a Medaglia d’Oro colt in February.
